Te Whakairo is a short film by Elanti Media that documents the journey of carvers James York (Ngāi Tahu / Ngapuhi) and Poutama Hetaraka (Ngati Wai / Ngāi Tahu) as they set out to create and install a whakairo at New Zealand’s Scott Base in Antarctica.
Their whakairo gives a physical form to a conversation about the common values of mātauranga Māori and science to understand the complexity of the global ecosystem, which includes humanity, and to restore a healthier balance.
